Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

When there are mountains, I watch the mountains. On rainy days I listen to the rain. Spring, summer, autumn, winter — the mornings are good, the evenings are good.

blazing sky, nowhere to hide, and water comes flowing

enten kakusu tokoro naku mizu no nagare kuru

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

Under a scorching midsummer sky there is not one patch of shade to hide in. And yet, into it, water comes flowing with a sound. The inescapable heat and the unhesitating coolness of the water — the harsh and the merciful share a single landscape, side by side.
