Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

down from the spring mountain rolling, rolling, little stones

haru no yama kara korokoro ishikoro

1939–1940 · Matsuyama, Issō-an hermitage
Sōmokutō · The Crow (Karasu)

Notes

Down the spring mountain path little stones come rolling, korokoro. The echo between "rolling" and "pebble" becomes, in itself, the lightness of the mountain. There is no deep meaning — only delight. You can even hear the mountain, tensed all winter, loosening and beginning to move.
