Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

sun into the mountain, moon out of the mountain, persimmons heavy on the bough

hi ga yama ni yama kara tsuki ga kaki no mi tawawa

1939–1940 · Matsuyama, Issō-an hermitage
Sōmokutō · The Crow (Karasu)

Notes

As the sun sinks into the mountain, the moon rises from the same mountain. Under that sky the persimmons hang heavy on the branch. The great turning of the heavens and the ripeness of a branch within arm's reach. Three views, parted by commas, join slowly into a fulfilling close to the day.
