Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

mountain peers out past mountain — the rainy season clears

yama kara yama ga nozoite tsuyubare

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

The long rains have at last let up, and past the overlapping mountains yet another mountain pokes out its face. There is a fairy-tale humor in it, as if mountain were peeking at mountain. The light of the rain-washed clearing makes the whole landscape new.
