Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

snow falling on gochū, and i as one man tend a fire

gochū yuki furu hitori to shite hi o taku

1932–1934 · At the Gochū hermitage
Sōmokutō · One Man Within (Gochū hitori)

Notes

As one man within this snow-falling world, he tends a fire. The poem weaves in the name of his hut, Gochū-an ("the hut within it all"). Amid the spread of the falling snow, the place of one small fire and one small self is set straight and sure.
