Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

somehow it has grown light — tea flowers

itsushika akete iru cha no hana

1932–1934 · At the Gochū hermitage
Sōmokutō · One Man Within (Gochū hitori)

Notes

Before he notices, day has broken, and in the faint white light there is the small white of the tea flowers. A soundless daybreak at the hermitage in early winter. A morning so quiet he barely registers that it has come — that hush becomes the whole poem.
