Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

across the water a man and a woman talk without end

mizu o hedatete otoko to onago to hanashi ga tsukinai

1939 · The last long journey
Sōmokutō · Heart for the Road (Tabigokoro)

Notes

Across the river a man and a woman call back and forth, deep in talk. Voices raised over the sound of the water, and the talk never runs out. The water they cannot cross seems, if anything, to quicken the talk, and the traveler listens with amusement.
