Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

the morning rain just enough to dampen the stones

asa no ame no ishi o shimesu hodo

1939 · The last long journey
Sōmokutō · Heart for the Road (Tabigokoro)

Notes

The morning rain is fine enough only to moisten the stones. No umbrella needed. The color of the wet stones deepens a little, and with that alone the whole feel of the morning air changes. An eye that misses none of that small change. A poem made of words pared as short as they can possibly go.
