Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

shut into itself the wild camellia blooms and drops

onore ni komoru yabutsubaki saite wa ochi

1938–1939 · Yuda · Fūraikyo hut
Sōmokutō · Cold and Alone (Kokan)

Notes

The wild camellia drops whole, its flower-shape intact, with a soft plop. Blooming as if shut into itself, it falls. He sees himself, shut up in his hut, overlapping with the camellia in the thicket's shade. A spring that silently repeats blooming and falling.
