Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

when it snows I buy sake and the price of sake has gone up too

yuki fureba sake kaeba sake mo agatta

1937–1938 · Late years at Gochū-an
Sōmokutō · Persimmon Leaves (Kaki no ha)

Notes

When it snows he wants sake and goes out to buy it — and the price of that sake has gone up. Still, on a snowy day he cannot give up his drink. A wry smile creeps into the tumbling rhythm of "when it snows," "when I buy."
