Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

on the journey even the sasa swaying on Sasa-yama

tabi wa sasayama no sasa no soyogu no mo

1937–1938 · Late Gochū-an period
Sōmokutō · Persimmon Leaves (Kaki no ha)

Notes

In the midst of the journey, even the sasa bamboo grass swaying on Sasa-yama — just that — sinks into the heart. The poem ends unfinished, mid-phrase. Nothing in particular has happened. To a walker's eye, every part of the landscape is new.
