Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

coming to the end of the road an autumn-touched sea brimming

tsukiatareba akimeku umi de tataete iru

1936–1937 · At Gochū-an hermitage
Sōmokutō · A Landscape of Weeds (Zassō fūkei)

Notes

Following the road to its end, there is the sea. Under autumn-touched light, it lies still, brimming full of water. With the single word "brimming," a dead end turns into a great expanse. A view that stops a traveler's feet in spite of himself.
