Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

voices drawing near — the tree buds bright

hitogoe no chikazuite kuru ko no me akaruku

1936–1937 · At Gochū-an hermitage
Sōmokutō · A Landscape of Weeds (Zassō fūkei)

Notes

Under trees just coming into bud, human voices approach from far off. Who it is is not yet clear. Still the buds are bright and the voices too are somehow bright. All that sits there is the glad premonition of a spring morning when something is about to begin.
