Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

winter comes again and another tooth falls out

fuyu ga mata kite mata ha ga nukeru koto mo

1936–1937 · At the Gochūan hermitage
Sōmokutō · A Landscape of Weeds (Zassō fūkei)

Notes

Winter has come round again, and again a tooth has fallen out. The turning of the season and the wearing of the body are bound by the same word, 'again.' Not lamenting, he simply sets down his aging body as it is.
