Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

this morning even the water's sound seems like good news

kesa wa mizuoto mo yoi tayori demo arisō na

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

On waking, the usual sound of water somehow rings bright. A groundless feeling that good news is about to come. Nothing has yet happened, but simply because it is morning the world looks a little kinder. The poem gently scoops up that mere sense of things, careful not to spill it.
