Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

seeing someone off, coming home alone through the mud

hito o miokuri hitori de kaeru nukarumi

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

Having seen a visitor off, he comes home alone down a muddy road. The footsteps that were for two on the way out are for one on the way back. The heaviness of feet caught in the mud overlaps with the heaviness of parting.
