sunflowers — in the blaze of noon the machines set to rest

himawari ya hizakari no kikai yasumasete aru

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

At the height of the day the work machines have been stopped and left to rest, and only the sunflowers stand facing the sun. In the scorching noon when people and machines alike take their break, there is a brightness as if only the flowers were still at work.
