At Kumamoto.

1925–1932 · Years of mendicant wandering
Sōmokutō · The Begging Bowl (Hachi no ko)

Notes

The headnote reads 'At Kumamoto.' Yasuka ('cheap') and samuka ('cold') are Kyūshū dialect — a vendor's cry, perhaps, or the voices of passersby. Through the bustle of the town, snow is falling. Over the repetition of the voices, the repetition of the snow is laid.
