Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

my robe torn to this and burrs of grass

hōe konna ni yaburete kusa no mi

1925–1932 · Years of mendicant wandering
Sōmokutō · The Begging Bowl (Hachi no ko)

Notes

His priest's robe has been torn to such a state. And in the tears cling the seeds of grasses. It tears in measure with the field paths walked, and gathers burrs in measure too. Wear and fruit lie together on the one robe.
