Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

cold rain falling and into the rained-on mountains I walk

shigururu ya shigururu yama e ayumiiru

1925–1932 · Years of mendicant wandering
Sōmokutō · The Begging Bowl (Hachi no ko)

Notes

In the cold rain he walks of his own will into mountains that are themselves being rained upon. He does not shrink from getting wet. The doubled shigururu becomes, just so, the sound of the rain and the rhythm of his steps.
