Santōka Alarm

reed plumes go where the wind wants to go

ashi no ho kaze no ikitai hō e iku

1939 · The last long journey
Sōmokutō · Heart for the Road (Tabigokoro)

Notes

The reed plumes all lean together the way the wind wants to go. A frank motion that resists nothing. The figure of reeds left to the wind chimes, somewhere, with the traveler's own life, walked always toward wherever he wished to go.
