Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

Kamakura is fine — the moon has risen through the pines

kamakura wa yoi matsu no ki no tsuki ga deta

1937–1938 · Late Gochū-an period
Sōmokutō · Persimmon Leaves (Kaki no ha)

Notes

Kamakura, dropped in on mid-journey. The moon has risen between the pines — and with that alone he declares, "Kamakura is fine." No argument is needed. The virtue of an ancient capital comes through well enough when pines and moon are gathered together.
