Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

the spearflower too — a lonesome one, its berry a single dot

yabukōji mo sabishigariya no mi ga potchiri

1934–1936 · To the mountains, to the waters
Sōmokutō · Walking Mountains, Walking Waters (Sankō suikō)

Notes

The spearflower (yabukōji) bears a single small red berry. He calls the way it ripens, hidden in the low shade, a "lonesome one." Between two lonely beings, a familiarity wells up, as if their eyes had met.
