Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

ringed round by tea shrubs, a life of no particular anything

cha no ki ni kakomare sokohakatonai kurashi

1932–1934 · At the Gochū hermitage
Sōmokutō · One Man Within (Gochū hitori)

Notes

The tea shrubs ring the hermitage all the way around, and inside them a life is lived with nothing you could call an event. In the phrase "no particular anything" there is exactly as much precariousness as there is peace.
