Santōka Alarm
日本語EN

a shrike cries and there is nowhere to lay this body down

mozu naite mi no sutedokoro nashi

1925–1932 · Years of mendicant wandering
Sōmokutō · The Begging Bowl (Hachi no ko)

Notes

The sharp cry of a shrike rings out. For this body there is no place to be cast down, nowhere at all to come to rest. The shrike's high call tearing the autumn sky strikes straight at his having nowhere to go.
